be your own Joe for 12 seconds

One of my favorite John McCain ads has been "I am Joe".

It's less than a week before the election and undecided voters are trying to figure out why they should vote McCain - Palin.  It's now, more than ever, that we need more Joe's to stand up and offer their reasons to undecided voters why John McCain and Sarah Palin is the right choice for America.

12secRads is looking for those Joe's.  Record a 12 second video of yourself saying why you are Joe too, or your personal story of how an Obama presidency would affect you, or your thoughts, or why you are supporting and / or voting for John McCain and Sarah Palin.  Email it to 12sec.R.ads, and maybe you will see yourself being the next Joe.  12secRads details here.

SNL skit hitting the NYT

video below -- scroll down

Looking for the skit, look no further, scroll down a bit [obtained via Sweetness & Light].  My two cents:  The part about Todd Palin being involved in incest may be overblown in some part [hear me out] from those screaming foul.  SNL was bashing the New York Times.  That's what the skit was.  A bash fest on the NYT and their [general] willingness to print anything and everything they don't like or understand about something or someone.  NYT + fact checking = [false statement, can't compute].  That their universe doesn't excede past the confines of Manhattan.  So I don't think SNL's addition of the comment was condoning or trying to spread disturbing and disgusting information as truth.  Rather it was showing that they, like other MSM, would/might be willing to jump on doomed disgusting myth bandwagons that we have seen perpetuated before by the likes of a DailyKos diary and Andrew Sullivan or current viral campaigns.  Printing it before it's been confirmed or validated, so in essence, feeding the fire with gasoline before realizing they burned half of the forest for no real justifiable reason.  Sweetness & Light posted below it's embeded video, a working script I believe.  Here is something that was cut out for whatever reason [emphasis mine]:
JAMES (CONTD)
Now, you all know why you’re here. You are, quite simply, the fifty finest investigative reporters in journalism today. Thanks to your work, it was The New York Times that broke the story about our government’s secret program to track terrorist finances overseas. A program so secret that, until our series, even Al Qaeda didn’t know about it! Great work on that one, Dennis.
(GROUP APPLAUDS)
HIGGINS
(FROM WAY IN THE BACK)
I had some help.
JAMES
But we don’t coast on reputation here. We are The New York Times. And in Sarah Palin, we’ve got a Vice Presidential candidate about whom we know virtually nothing.
Ouch!  That's a major dig.  Saying NYT compromised our efforts to fight terrorist; the likes of Al Qaeda.  The whole skit was a scathing rebuke of what NYT does and doesn't do.  The idea that everything is an assault rifle.  Someone thinking a snow machine is a baptism machine, probably showing the wanting of some MSM to attack her faith and/or church.  Anything to destroy McCain Palin and exalt Obama Biden.

Dennis Prager mentions every now and then that he has had talks with people who are amazed that there are people voting Republican.  Prager says they say they've never met one.  And it's because people are surrounded by their own kind.  They live in a bubble.  An echo chamber.  And Prager has said that it's people he knows in New York.  That's the New York Times, in it's own uni-bubble-verse.  Echo Chamber: "Palin is evil! [~palin is evil!~] Confirmation!!! [~confirmation!!!~] Print it quick!!! [~print it quick!!!~]"

Could the line have been taken out like other lines apparently were?  Absolutely.  Would it have made the skit less impactful?  No.  Would it still be mocking the NYT?  Yes.  But I really think it was crying foul big time on the NYT, making fun of the extremes they go to.  The lack of "...fine investigative..." reporting in MSM journalism.  I'm willing to be convinced otherwise.

who is Obama following on twitter?

Update: Lagomorphic was informed that twitter has a auto-follow feature.  When a twitter-er follows your account, twitter can set your account to automatically follow them [view their tweets].  Even with this, I think there should be a little oversight and discretion.  If one is trying to portray an image of a clean and a non-divisive campaign, I'd try and keep up on it.  Even if it was an oversight, once it was pointed out, I would go to great lengths to correct it, blocking their account.  Let's see what happens, if nothing, then that would be telling.

Whoever is manning the Obama twitter account should think about having a little discretion. [note: To follow someones "tweets" takes the physical act of the account holder to click a Follow button.  Whoever is overseeing Barack Obama's twitter account consciously and voluntarily added the accounts mentioned below.]

Lagomorphic gives the lowdown on who the Obama twitter account is following and it's a reference to Sarah Palin's private parts.  [I wouldn't let kids see.  It can get personal.]

velvethammer, at Ironic Surrealism II, gives a couple more of who Obama's twitter account is following.

Just saying.  Might want to take a second look.

Using the DNCC's trash

I'm sure you know or have heard by now about the American flags found in bags discarded by the dumpsters at Invesco Field for a week and a day after Barack Obama's speech.  If not update here [got link from Hugh Hewitt].

I'd like to point out something Ed Morrissey says on his post about it:
"No one suggested here that it was a “nefarious plot”, and like Harsanyi, I hardly think that Obama would have directed his staff to throw 12,000 American flags in a dumpster. In fact, until Team Obama issued this ludicrous statement, the story didn’t have anything to do with them. However, the obvious carelessness with which the DNCC treated the flags is a rather revealing moment for them, and the lie for people in Obama’s organization."
[Emphasis mine]  That's the poignant point.  I'll leave it there because Ed said it better than I could and I would rehash it all in a blubber that's not as concise.

John McCain's speech - video

added the video before he came out to the clip.  thought it was good to add.

One of my favorite lines from tonight:  "We never hide from history. We make history."
And I want to be maybe the first to point out a stark difference I saw tonight with what we saw last week at Obama's acceptance speech in Denver.  I loved that McCain and Palin went into the crowd and shook the hands of the people.  Obama graced us with his family and Biden's family next to their Col-Obama-seum.  Very different.  Anyone else?

rnc transcript here.

generic transcript and audio of speech here.

Just saw a link to a web site that has Chuck Norris like facts for Sarah Palin.  Don't like the Chuck Norris facts but these ones are true about Sarah Palin.  "Sarah Palin is the reason compasses point North."

one of my favorite lines of the night:  "I love those hockey moms. You know, they say the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull: lipstick."
and:    "There is only one man in this election who has ever really fought for you."

[if you read previous posts, I didn't like McCain.  Didn't want him as the Republican nominee.  But he's proven himself and I'm excited with Governor Sarah Palin as VP pick.  If heard about conservatives excitement with Ronald Reagan in the past.  I wonder if it felt like this?]

a letter to hugh hewitt

A letter I sent to Mr. Hugh Hewitt the other day [with some edits]:

Mr. Hewitt,
I'm male, [mid to late 20's], Reformed Christian, conservative, from Arizona.

Days ago I was disturbed and angered at the DailyKos trying to say Trig was Bristol's baby, especially after reading a comment that said that the dots should be connected showing the father had to be the ex-brother-in-law and that was the reason for the "abuse or power" scandal.  Then Monday came and I found out the Bristol Palin was five months pregnant [which flooded light on to the disgusting absurdity of DailyKos and the nutter's claims].  But I didn't know how I felt about it.  [Then] I wondered how the Republican base would react.

It's been more than 24 hours and after reading [especially from Sarah Palin herself], listening, and contemplating.  After discussing it with my mother I realized something.  I've been hearing the MSM ask if Sarah Palin is a hypocrite, or now McCain will lose the pro-lifers and others in the party, and hearing conservative pundits point out the left doesn't get it.  It occurred to me that Sarah Palin and her family are/is the exact example of what a family is and does that we have been trying to relay to others.  If we could put into a pamphlet or into a video of what we mean by family values and all that it encompasses it would be the Sarah Palin family story.  If someone makes a mistake and shows repentance/guilt/acceptance of responsibility we don't make them an outcast.  If someone doesn't add up to some ruler of perfect we don't discard them like a mass of tissue.  Because of a mistake we don't punish those with no hand in it, again discarding them as a mass of tissue.  With all we don't do, we do show support.  We do give them a foundation to stand on.  We give them advice that may hurt but is for the benefit of them.  Sarah Palin and her amazing family is what we have been talking about and I wish the MSM could see the walk.  [get it, walk the walk, talk the talk - anyway]

If Sarah Palin preached abstinence but gave her daughter condoms or gave some contrary education/advice to her daughter that would be hypocritical.  If she preached pro-life but asked her daughter to have an abortion that would be hypocritical.  If she preached family but didn't offer support to her daughter in this time of need or didn't [most likely] encourage her to marry the father, then that would have been hypocritical.

[~tohu.va.vohu]

P.S. 001 I remember a couple in my church conceived without being married.  It was amazing the support and love directed to them both before and after a call of repentance and reconciliation.  Not a bone of hate or contention, not one.

P.S. 002  I just wish there would be more talk about her record and achievements rather than the happy fuzzy feelings Gov. Sarah Palin gives.  When I first heard she was the VP I said, "McCain, this is why you've given me heartburn for years."  But I listened to my three favorite commentators, Prager, Medved, and you MR. HUGH HEWITT [which do I love more?] and heard about her record.  The one thing that impressed me beyond belief was the stories about her going after corruption, EVEN in her own party.  I have heard and still hear young people say they think all politicians are corrupt which leads some to say they won't get involved with politics i.e. voting.  I overheard a guy the other day ask a "gal" what she thought of the pick.  "What has she done really?  He only picked her because she was a girl.  I don't know."  I wanted desperately to go over and just tell her to check on her ending corruption, EVEN in her own party.  That's worth the first crack in the door [or the glass ceiling] [with many more to come].  What conservative hasn't wanted some kind of corruption buster in the party.  I was wondering if it would every happen myself.  But now I like the prospects.  Keep it up Sarah Palin.  Maybe this is the reform we've been waiting for, the change we need.  It's not lip service or empty rhetoric or generic slogans, but action, choices, decisions.  Tangibility.

[Extra - not in letter]
Heard a Colorado delegate [I believe] on the Dennis Prager show say Sarah Palin was Miracle Grow for the grassroots.
